Are Transgender People Accepted?

First, you should define what you call acceptance. Is it able to walk outside without being looked upon as a freak? Or without being punched? Having friends and not being a social outcast? Being considered for a relationship? Being able to get a (decent) job? And is it dependent on how ‘passable’ we look?

Don't be fooled by the media; the long shot doesn't accept us. Even instances that are supposed to be fighting us, are only allowing the voices of the ones they consider to be heard. And those ‘chosen ones’ are generally also the ‘lucky ones or the ones that fit the stereotype they want to get out there. The ‘lucky’ transgenders mostly also ignore the transgenders who are not that fortunate. I wouldn't want to have those rose-tinted glasses dirty.

Acceptance is more than just being allowed to breathe (just barely).

Throughout history, many cultures have accepted transgender people and/or more than two genders. The gender binary is a very western concept.

So, are trans people more accepted in the US than in the USA, say, 50 years ago? Yeah, definitely.

Are trans people more accepted in the US than, let’s say, Spain? Probably not. But even then, countries are not homogeneous. There are wide variances in culture and acceptance, sometimes within a very short distance.

More, for the most part, than in the past. Nowhere near enough when it comes to TRUE acceptance. The day when, as Alina alluded to, the 'trans' part is dropped, and ALL recognize us as just people.
