How come gay marriage couldn't be called a different name?
Why can’t we call a “marriage” a “marriage” and be done with it?

Why does it matter what the sexual equipment of the people getting married is? A marriage is a marriage, no matter who the participants are.

We don’t call marriages between men and women “straight” marriages, so why do we call weddings between two same-sex people “gay” marriages? Why make any distinction whatsoever?

A marriage is a union between two people who are deeply committed to living together in marital bliss. It shouldn’t matter what their sexual identities are - that’s their business, not anyone else’s.

It's a marriage. Why would you have to say a Ford or a Chevrolet car when you're talking about cars?

We already have a fully functional and appropriate word for that. Why do we need to create a second word? If there is a different word common in English that we could use, I still don't understand why you need a second word. Are you afraid you'll be associated as gay when you say you are married?

If you feel your marriages somehow diminished because gay people get married, it sounds like the problem is with you and your relationship, not the word. Maybe you need to use the second word to express your marriage as a homophobe. Why don't you call yourself “not-gay-married" since you seem to be the one with the problem?
